Soothing and Easy to Grow!

Aloe Vera is a tropical plant that can be grown anywhere in the country when potted in a container.

The leaves of the Aloe Vera plant are known for their soothing qualities. The gel-like fluid inside the leaf is used to cool burns. When a burn occurs, just take a leaf and squeeze the raw edge to extract the cooling gel. (Aloe Vera acts as both a cooling and moisturizing agent against sunburn, too!)

The gray/green leaves reach over a foot long at maturity and are slightly rough at the edges from little teeth that run along the length of the leaf. Over time, new offshoots start to form from the central stem. As they grow, they can be removed, potted, and grown for friends and neighbors!

Aloe Vera is drought-tolerant but should be kept slightly moist in summer. Place it in a bright sunny area in northern gardens, and give some afternoon shade to the plant in hot southern regions. Over the winter, this plant needs very little attention.

This is a great houseplant for busy households, and it’s easy to grow either on your patio or in your home. For landscape use, place the Aloe Vera with other succulents in containers to make an attractive arrangement in a corner of the deck or along steps.
